Universal Orlando has given eager fans a first look at some of the animated monster figures that will appear inside one of its attractions at Epic Universe, which is set to open in May.
The photos released Tuesday show four of 14 animatronics that will be part of Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment—a thrilling dark ride located in the Dark Universe section of the theme park.
The figures include Frankenstein’s monster, Dracula, Wolf Man and the Creature from the Black Lagoon. Universal is calling them the “most visceral, powerful and fast-moving” animatronics it’s ever created.
Monsters Unchained will take visitors into the catacombs of Frankenstein Manor where they’ll encounter Dr. Victoria Frankenstein, who is conducting experiments in her lab. Of course, things don’t go according to plan and hordes of angry monsters she’s been trying to control are unleashed.
Visitors will first encounter Frankenstein’s Monster in the ride queue, where the 9-foot tall figure will walk around Dr. Victoria Frankenstein’s lab during a preshow.
Dracula will appear in the ride multiple times, Wolf Man will bare his “razor-sharp teeth” and swing his “jagged claws,” while “Gill-man will “emerge from the inky depths of the Black Lagoon.”
Universal also released a video showing the animatronics in action while members of the Universal Creative team share more details about the ride and the figures.
“From a technical standpoint, they exceed beyond everyone’s wildest expectations for what an animated figure can do,” said Peter Carsillo, senior creative director, in the video.
Other Universal classic monsters will roam Dark Universe, including Bride of Frankenstein, Ygor and the Invisible Man.
Epic Universal is set to officially open on May 22. The park will have other themed lands, including Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk, Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic and Celestial Park.
The first round of tickets are already on sale, including multi-day tickets that include a day at Epic and one-day passes for Universal Orlando passholders.
