Could the days be numbered for Universal Orlando’s Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster?

Universal has filed new permits with the South Florida Water Management District that indicate that changes are on the way for the attraction.

The plans, which were filed under the name “Project P830,” outline drainage improvements for the area around Rip Ride Rockit at Universal Studios Florida. But it also calls for the “existing attraction” to be removed and replaced with a “proposed attraction.” The filing doesn’t specify what the proposed attraction will be.

Documents filed this week include project area maps that show plans to build three new buildings at the site—with two of them located behind Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon and the firehouse facade in the New York section of the park.

The documents didn’t specify how the new buildings would be used.

Although Universal Orlando has not officially said whether Rip Ride Rockit will permanently close, the coaster’s closure has been rumored for a while. Many fans began to speculate the end was near for the ride in 2023, when its on-board soundtrack was reduced from 30 options to 5 options.

Rip Ride Rockit is over 15 years old. The coaster opened to the public in August of 2009.

If the ride is replaced, it will be the latest in a number of changes at Universal Studios Florida. In recent years, the park replaced Shrek 4-D with a new minions attraction. It opened a new Minions Land as well as a DreamWorks Land.
