Comcast, parent company of Universal Destinations & Experiences, announced Tuesday plans to build its first-ever theme park and resort in the United Kingdom.
Set to open in 2031, the project will be located on a 476-acre site just south of Bedford, England, and include a theme park with several themed lands, a 500-room hotel, and a retail, entertainment and dining complex.
“This is a special and historic milestone moment four our company as we continue to accelerate the growth trajectory of our theme parks business and delight audiences around the world,” Comcast president Mike Cavanagh said in a statement.
Universal made the announcement alongside members of the UK government. The company expects the park to generate nearly £50 billion ($64 billion) for the economy and create more than 20,000 jobs between its construction period and operations.
An estimated 8.5 million visitors are expected in the park’s first year.
“It is not just about numbers,” UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a statement. “It’s about securing real opportunities for people in our country. Together, we are building a brighter future for the UK, getting people into work and ensuring our economy remains strong and competitive.”
Universal also released the first piece of official concept art for the park, which it says will feature “thrilling rides, innovative attractions and exciting entertainment.” No details on specific attractions were shared.
The project still needs to receive planning approval. Universal will submit proposals to the government in the “months ahead.” Once approved, construction would begin in 2026.
Universal—which operates parks in Orlando, Los Angeles, Japan and China—has been steadily expanding its parks business. It’s developing a kids-focus park set to debut in Texas in 2026. Later this year, Universal is opening a year-round horror experience called Horror Unleashed in Las Vegas.
