The Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster at Universal Studios Florida will permanently close in 2025, Universal Orlando confirmed Friday.
The coaster will close in early September to “make way for a new experience,” according to the resort. Universal says it plans to release details about the coaster’s replacement will be at a later date.
The confirmation comes after news broke that Universal filed permits earlier this week with the South Florida Water Management District for plans to demolish Rip Ride Rockit and replace it with a new attraction.
Rip Ride Rockit, which opened in 2009, is located near the front of the park. One of the coaster’s unique features is that it lets riders select their own music.
Rumors of the coaster’s demise have been circulating for a while. In 2023, fans began speculating that Rip Ride Rockit was nearing its end when Universal trimmed the coaster’s on-board music selection from 30 options to just 5 songs.
The coaster will close just a few months after Universal opens Epic Universe on May 22. The new theme park will feature five lands—Celestial Park, Super Nintendo World, Dark Universe, How to Train Your Dragon-Isle of Berk and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter-Ministry of Magic.
