SeaWorld Orlando has reached a major milestone in its efforts to help manatees.
The theme park announced it recently made its 1,000th manatee rescue.
“Manatees are an iconic part of Florida’s ecosystem, and we are honored to play a key role in their conservation,” said Jon Peterson, park president, in a news release. “By rescuing, rehabilitating and hopefully returning these animals, we not only save individuals lives but also inspire our guests to join us in protecting these amazing creatures.”
SeaWorld Orlando’s conservation and rescue efforts span five decades. Since 1976, the park has operated one of only three critical care facilities in the U.S.
In 2024, SeaWorld rescued 61 manatees and rehabilitated 38 manatees that were returned to the wild.
In addition to rescue efforts, SeaWorld offers in-park programs to help educators visitors about manatee conservation. Visitors also can see manatees at the park’s Rescue Center.
