The large building that previously housed the NBA Experience at Disney Springs will soon get a new tenant. Level99, a Massachusetts-based entertainment center, announced Wednesday plans to open its first-ever Florida location at Disney World.
Level99, which has several locations on the East Coast, describes itself as a “first-of-its-kind” place for adults, offering “interactive social gaming.” Its venues feature physical and mental challenges that are set in “artistic environments.” The challenges are a mix of interactive games, virtual reality experiences an other activities.
Visitors can complete challenges with a team of friends in themed challenge rooms or face off player-vs-play in duels. In addition to games, Level99 venues also feature a bar and dining space.
The Disney Springs venue, which will be the company’s largest to date, will be located on the complex’s West Side. The two-story venue will feature more that 60 challenge rooms and duels across 45,000 square feet of space. It will also have a two-story bar serving cocktails and local beers. The menu will also feature Level99’s signature Detroit-style pizza.
“After spending two decades in the location-based entertainment industry, it became clear there was consumer demand for a concept like this—a real unmet need,” Level99 CEO and founder Mattew DuPlessie said in a news release. “Our vision is to make ‘challenge rooms’ a mainstream concept, and the opportunity to open at a marquee location like Disney Springs in the next step in our plans to expand the Level99 brand nationally.”
The opening of the Disney World location will mark Level99’s fifth location. The company plans to hire over 100 employees for the new location.
So far, an opening timeline has not been announced.
Level99 will be the latest gaming concept to occupy that massive building at Disney Springs. Prior to the NBA Experience, which closed in 2021, the building was home to DisneyQuest, an indoor interactive theme park that opened in 1998. It feature multiple levels of video games, arcade games and other interactive experiences. It closed in 2017.
