It’s been over a year since Disneyland’s nighttime spectacular “Fantasmic!” held any performances at the Rivers of America.
The long-running show was put on hiatus in April 2023 after the 45-foot Maleficent dragon, nicknamed Murphy by fans, was destroyed after it caught fire during one of the performances.
Fantasmic! returns Friday and Disneyland has shared a first look at how it has updated the show, which will no longer feature the beloved dragon.
A video released Wednesday shows glimpses at the revamped battle scene between Mickey Mouse and Maleficent. The evil Maleficent will now tower some 35 feet above the stage. A new mix of lighting and projections will be used during the scene.
Another change will include the return of Peter Pan, which replaces the segment for “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
The show will still feature characters and scenes from other Disney movies such as “Aladdin” and “Tangled.”
Fantasmic! will have two performances each night—9 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.
