It’s countdown to extinction for DinoLand USA at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The dinosaur-themed land will begin a phased closure in January to make way for the new Tropical Americas land.

The final day for visitors to experience TriceraTop Spin, Fossil Fun Games and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures will be Jan. 12, Disney World announced Monday. Dinosaur, the Boneyard play area, Restaurantosaurus, Dino-Bite Snacks and Trill-Bites will remain open for now.

Construction walls will go up Jan. 13 so work can begin transforming DinoLand into the Tropical Americas area, which will feature attractions based on “Encanto” and “Indiana Jones.”

Disney revealed plans and concept art for the reimagining at its D23 fan event in August. The new land is expected to open in 2027.

Disney also shared updates for other attractions and projects around the resort.

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom will close for an extended refurbishment on Jan. 6. The Frontierland coaster is set to reopen in 2026.

Also at Magic Kingdom, Jungle Cruise will reopen from refurbishment on Oct. 16. The attraction will then transform into Jingle Cruise on Nov. 2 for Disney’s holiday season.

Disney also announced the reimagined “Little Mermaid” stage show at Hollywood Studios has been delayed. “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure,” initially set to debut this fall will now debut in summer of 2025. Disney says work on the exterior of the building, which is located in Animation Courtyard, will begin “soon.”

Disney World has a number of projects in the works, with many expected to open in the next few years. They include a villains-inspired land at Magic Kingdom, two “Cars” attractions also for Magic Kingdom, a “Monsters, Inc.” land for Hollywood Studios and a villains stage show for the same park.
