Disney World to roll out changes to Genie+, Lightning Lane

Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom. (Theme Park Decoder)

Disney World is making some big changes to Genie+, its paid skip-the-line service, including a name change and the ability for visitors to book Lightning Lane access days in advance.

Starting July 24, Genie+ will be rebranded as Lightning Lane Multi Pass, while the current Individual Lightning Lane will become Lightning Lane Single Pass.

With the change, visitors will be able to reserve attractions in advance, instead of having to wait until 7 a.m. the day of their visit—which is the current set up.

Those staying at a Disney World Resort hotel will be able to book their Lightning Lanes and times up to seven days in advance. Everyone else will be able to book Lightning Lane three days in advance.

With Lightning Lane Multi Pass, visitors can make up to three Lightning Lane selections for one theme park ahead of time. Then, on the day of their visit, they can make an additional selection after using one.

If visitors have the Park Hopper option with their admission, they will be able to book additional Lightning Lanes at other parks.

The attractions they can choose from will be from will be similar to what’s currently offered with Genie+, including Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which opens at Magic Kingdom on June 28.

Lightning Lane Single Pass will operate the much like Individual Lightning Lane does currently, with visitors able to purchase access to two of the most in-demand attractions per day, except they’ll be able to do so in advance.

The attraction options under Single Pass include Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and TRON Lightcycle Run at Magic Kingdom, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, and Avatar Flight of Passage at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The My Disney Experience app will be updated to make the process of booking selections easier. Visitors will even be able to purchase both Multi Pass and Single Pass for the same day in a single transaction.

Prices for both will continue to vary by date since Disney use dynamic pricing.

Disney has been making small changes here and there to the Genie+ service since its launch in 2021, when it replaced the free FastPass+ service. The changes have been in response to guests feedback.

“We enjoy hearing from guests about all the things they love, as well as how we can make their experience even better the next time,” Disney posted on its official parks blog. “At Disney World, guests have told us they would prefer to have the option to do more of their planning before their theme park day.”

Disney has launched a new page on its website that will hopefully answer most the questions visitors have about the change. It also includes a breakdown of which attractions are included at each park under each tier.

Disney Genie, the free planning service available in the My Disney Experience, will continue to be available, according to Disney.
