Disney World sets closing date for MuppetVision 3D at Hollywood Studios

Disney World has revealed the closing dates for MuppetVision 3D and the rest of the Muppets Courtyard area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios as its makes way for a “Monsters, Inc.-themed land at the park. 

The last day of operation for MuppetVision will be June 7, Disney said Friday. PizzeRizzo, a nearby restaurant, will also have its final day on June 7. 

Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano will have it final day on May 10. 

MuppetVision 3D, which has been at the park since 1991, is a show that features the Muppets, animatronics and special effects. It’s also Jim Henson’s final project before his death.

Disney has reiterated that it’s looking at ways to preserve the attraction. “As we move forward with these changes, we are having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future,” Disney said in a post on the official Disney Parks Blog. 

The Muppets will move to the other side of the park, taking over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith. 

At its D23 event in August, Disney announced plans for a “Monsters, Inc.” land at Hollywood Studios. The update will include Disney’s first suspended roller coaster. 

Other changes on the way for Disney World include a villains-themed and and a “Cars” land at Magic Kingdom, a revamped Test Track at EPCOT, a new villains show at Hollywood Studios and a new Tropical Americas land at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.
