Disney shares first look at Animal Kingdom’s new baby Sumatran tiger

Disney World has welcomed a new Sumatran tiger cub at Disney’s Animal Kingdom.

The resort on Wednesday shared a first look at Bakso, the first baby tiger born at the park in seven years.

The male cub’s birth is special because Sumatran tigers are considered critically endangered. There are fewer than 600 Sumatran tigers in the wild and in managed care worldwide, according to Disney.

“Tiger births are rare in managed care and take a lot of planning and coordinating by our animal care team and the Species Survival Plan,” said Dr. Natalie Mylniczenko, a Disney veterinarian, in a post on the Disney Parks Blog

Bakso was born to second-time mom Sohni and dad Conrad, who are both residents at Animal Kingdom.

Disney says Bakso and Sohni will be ready to join the Maharaja Jungle Trek in early 2025, giving park visitors a chance to spot the baby tiger.
