A section of DinoLand, U.S.A. has permanently closed at Disney’s Animal Kingdom as Disney prepares to add a new Tropical Americas themed land.

Chester & Hester’s Dino-Rama—which included the TriceraTop Spin ride and the Fossil Fun Games carnival games—and Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures gift shop shuttered as part of the first phase of closures for the “reimagining” of this area of the park.

On Monday, construction walls and planters were added around the closed section, preventing park visitors from accessing that area.

Work is set to begin soon on the Tropical Americas expansion, which will include the addition of a carousel and rides based on “Encanto” and “Indiana Jones.”

The “Encanto” attraction will replace Dino-Rama, while Indy will take over the Dinosaur attraction, which will remain open through the rest of the year. Also remaining open in DinoLand, for now, is Boneyard play area, Restaurantosaurus, Dino-Bite Snacks and Trilo-Bites.

Disney announced plans for a Tropical Americas area of Animal Kingdom at its Destination D23 event in 2023. Then, at its D23 fan event last summer, the company confirmed plans for the attractions that will be featured in the land and provided new details about the project

Tropical Americas is expected to open in 2027.
