Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin at Magic Kingdom will get some big upgrades, Disney World announced Wednesday.

The updates to the Tomorrowland ride will include new ride vehicles with handheld blasters and video monitors that provide scoring updates.

The new blasters will fire different color beams—two per ride vehicle—and feature new sound and vibration effects.

The ride’s static targets will also be updated with interactive targets that light up and when hit.

A new character, a robot named Buddy, will be featured in a new scene at the start of the ride.

“As a support-bot, Buddy makes sure departing Space Rangers are fully prepared for their mission, enthusiastically providing encouragement, final system checks on their Star Cruisers and a chance to hone their blaster aim,” Disney said in a post on the official Disney Parks Blog.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin opened in 1998, taking over the space that previously housed Delta Dreamflight and If You Had Wings attractions.

The ride will close in August for the updates and reopen in 2026, according to Disney.

Disney closed another Magic Kingdom attraction earlier this year for a lengthy refurbishment. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed in January and is expected to reopen next year with “new magic.”

The park is also set to get two “Cars”-inspired attractions and a new villains-themed land.
