Gaylord Palms’ ICE attraction to feature ‘Elf’

Gaylord Palms' ICE attraction will be based on "Elf." (Gaylord Palms)

Gaylord Palms Resort will feature a new theme for this year’s ICE attraction. For the first time, the displays will be based on the holiday movie “Elf.”

The ice sculpture attraction, opening Nov. 15, will include scenes recreated from the 2003 movie that starred Will Ferrell as Buddy, a human raised by elves in the North Pole who later goes on a journey to New York City to discovery his real identity.

Concept art of this year’s theme shows the entrance will feature a large Buddy making up part of the sign that reads, “elf.” The scene also includes a classroom with ice desks.

Other scenes that will be depicted in the ICE display include the department store and the mailroom. The slide room will feature ice sculptures engaging in a snowball fight.

Artisans from China will create the displays from more than two million pounds of ice. The entire exhibit is kept at 9 degrees Fahrenheit to ensure the sculptures keep their form. Gaylord Palms provides visitors with parkas when they experience the attraction.

ICE is part of the Christmas at Gaylord Palms event, which also includes ice tubing down Snow Flow Mountain, the live “Cirque: Spirit of Christmas” show, photos with Santa and an atrium light show.

Christmas at Gaylord Palms runs through Jan. 4, 2025.
